Marriage is the most powerful way for couples to show their love. However, it will be unfair for someone to try and negate the rights of married couples. Therefore, all types of marriages including gay marriages should be legalized since couples deserve equal rights and freedom. Opponents of gay marriage point out that it is against God’s laws, but they forget that the same Bible also promotes equality regardless of gender, race and religion. Moreover, if marriage is all about love, then those in love and committed to one another should be allowed to the freedom to marry regardless of their gender and age. Studies have revealed that heterosexual marriages are failing at a very at the very alarming rate. One of the reasons that made people especially the youth to support gay marriage is that they grew in an environment that was ga y-friendly. Gay was openly practiced, and they acknowledged of knowing people that were gay. This open display created perception that being gay was not a social evil hence making a lot of people embrace it. In 2001, 57% of American adults opposed gay marriage while 35% supported it. This, however, changed in the year 2013 where 49% supported it as compared to 44% who opposed it. It has been predicted that, by 2020, voters in 44 states of the U.S would support same-sex marriage. Another reason that has led to support gay marriage is the idea of democracy. The democrats fought for equal rights and the fact that the gay are human, they noted that they also had the right to be given equal rights. A change in perceptions and world view led to many people viewing gay marriage as normal hence supporting it. Moreover, those people who have no religious affiliation do not see the need of opposing the gay rights because they have no basis for their arguments.
